Lent to Easter is a journey of the interior for the Christian. It is a time for reflection on our own lives and a time to contemplate what Jesus did for us. Join us this year as we journey towards Easter starting with Ash Wednesday, through the 40 days of Lent and arriving on Easter Sunday to joyous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.

Lent
The period of Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Good Friday. Lent is a period of reflection where we step back from the worldliness of every day and contemplate how we can draw closer to God. In some traditions Lent is a time for letting go and penitence. Some people choose to give up certain activities or foods as a spiritual practice however we encourage people to give up that which keeps them separate from God.

Ash Wednesday, as the first day of Lent, encourages people to begin the examination of their lives acknowledging we have sinned and caused division from God. Join us on YouTube as we gather online to mark this day. Link to service will be published here when it becomes available.
“…you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Gen 3:19)
The ashes represent the dust God made us from. They also symbolise grief; grief that we have sinned. Upon receiving the ashes many people see this as a start of their Lenten practice.

On Palm Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem.
“A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.” (Matthew 21 1:11)

On Good Friday we remember that Jesus willingly suffered and died as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. It is the day both wrath and mercy meet at the cross. The service commemorates Jesus’ crucifixion and ends with the altar being stripped bare and people leaving the service in silence.

On Easter Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and his victory over sin and death. The sadness of Good Friday is cast aside as Jesus has risen from the dead fulfilling God’s promises to us. The tomb is empty and the prophecy fulfilled. Come and rejoice with us that the Lord has risen!
“For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures…” (1 Cor 15:3-4)
