Hope is having nothing

Today is the second Sunday or our new sermon series – Hope is…

Over the next five weeks we will continue to follow the lectionary readings and focus on what that reveal to us about the nature of hope.

Last week we talked about the idea that Hope is having enough.. Today we discover that perhaps hope is having nothing at all.

Could it be that hope is found in emptying ourselves of all our wants and desires – all our dreams and ambitions – all our fears and doubts..  Could it be that hope is found the desert place we avoid – not the paradise that we long for..  Could it be that hope is found in the alley way and not on broadway – in the hospital room and not the board room – the stable feedbox rather than the stadium corporate box…  Could it be that hope is found when we have given everything else away and find ourselves with nothing left but the hope of hope itself…

Today we are reminded that we worship a messiah who left the throne room of heaven for the backwater of galilee..  May his story be one that fills us with hope and wonder.
