Transfiguration Sunday

Today is transfiguration Sunday. It is an important day in our church calendar, because it marks a transition in our focus and serves as a bridge between Jesus public ministry life and the cross he will be journeying towards from hereon in.

Up until this point in Marks gospel, Jesus has been the hero of the story…he has defeated every problem, evil spirits – check; sickness and disease – check; critics and nay Sayers – check and check. But, at the mention of his death in Chapter 8, we hit a crisis point.  If the hero dies, then what’s the point? Death doesn’t signal success and triumph, death is defeat, its failure to achieve what has been promised…we will be exploring this and tracking the way in which love flows through both of our scripture readings this morning.
