Palm Sunday

Today is the sixth Sunday of Lent.  It is also Palm Sunday.

The liturgy of the palms – is not remembered well by imagining a street parade…  But rather a public protest.  A protest against the brutality of Roman occupation.  A protest against the systemic injustice of the religious practices of first century Judaism.  A protest against the powers and principalities that seek to divide us – seek to diminish us – seek to oppress us.  Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem was a public demonstration that heralded the arrival of a new king – and the coming of a new kingdom.

That was two thousand years ago.

Some would say – this new kingdom is a long time coming

Some would say – this new king is big disappointment…

Some would say – we are still waiting…

And yet – again and again we are called to welcome Jesus into Jerusalem…  into Brisbane… into our homes and our work places and our communities…

Again and again we are called to proclaim ‘Hosanna’…

Again and again, O God,  we are reminded of the healing and hope your presence brings.

Again and again we welcome you into our lives..
