Gospel of the Spirit – Dance

Today is the final Sunday in our preaching series ‘the Gospel of the Sprit’.  We have journeyed together and learned to listen, repent, follow, find faith, worship, wait and receive.  And today we shall dance with joy as the spirit enlivens our souls…

Because today is also Trinity Sunday.  I’ll be honest with you, Trinity Sunday, at times, can seem like a bit of an afterthought.  In many respects it is the hangover from the Pentecost party the week before.  If the presence of God is made known to the world through the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in the midst of God’s church – then the church needs to try and make sense of this.  How is it that God can be three different Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit?  The doctrine of the Trinity is not actually articulated in Holy Scripture.  It is suggested perhaps, but it is certainly not spelt out in an intentional, systematic manner.  Through a series of doctrinal councils, the leaders and thinkers of the early church did their best to try and understand the nature of God – and what they came up with was the Trinity.  Today we will seek to discover a little more of what this mystery might mean for us…

On this day we remember that the Gospel of the Spirit continues to tell the story of God’s love – and we are called to live that story – indeed – dance that story – as the spirit moves with us and makes a way ahead…
