Meet the Minister: Rev Melanie Wheeley

Finally, that long-awaited day has arrived – I am finally here, ready to join with you as we continue the discernment and action of many, many faith filled Christ followers that have gone before, both lay and ordained. I am so grateful to God for you already and I haven’t even had the privilege of getting to know you yet!

For those who haven’t heard anything of me, my name is Rev Mel Wheeley and I am in my ninth year of Ordained Ministry as a Minister of the Word.  Previously ministry includes project worker at Synod Office; Ministry Placements at Moggill Uniting Church and Beenleigh Region Uniting Church; Scripture Union Chaplaincy; Wesley Meal Coordinator; Youth Worker for at Risk Youth.  Put simply, my passion is to love God, myself and others well (I believe it is hard to love others well, if you don’t first love yourself). I love listening for God and partnering with the Spirit of God already at work in and around us. It is an absolute joy when someone moves that one step closer towards God in their discipleship journey and I firmly and passionately believe that discipleship for me includes helping to create and sustain a compassionate, just and inclusive society.

I am married to Trent (who will be attending the 9am Worship Service) and together we have three children – Joseph (21), Thomas (18) and Renae (16).  As a family we spend our down time either at Coolangatta, around a table playing strategic boardgames, enjoying musical theatre together or playing with our dogs Cleo and Augustus.    I also have a secret love for photography that captures life in all its complexity. I am really looking forward to getting to know you and ministering alongside you.

May you know peace.
