Advent and Christmas season at Albert Street Uniting was an exciting time involving lots of singing and celebration!
We began the season with a festival of singing!
A family Christmas carols concert was held the Friday night in conjunction with Newlife Brisbane. Many a favourite song was performed by Greg Hartay-Szabo and the fabulous Full Spectrum Brass. Rev Peter learnt a thing or two during the children’s talk! The honesty of children is also refreshing (and hilarious!!).
Our annual Sing It Yourself Messiah followed the next night. It was attended by many from near and far. Greg Hartay-Szabo put together another wonderful evening led by Jason Barry-Smith. Thanks to all who helped make this night a success.
We followed the rousing evening with our quiet morning – our Advent Labyrinth walk the following week. The theme of the walk was centred around a work of art by Rev Robyn Davis entitled “The Gift”. Attendees enjoyed slowing down and connecting with God at a gentle pace.
During our Advent Sunday services our Sunday school group ”set the table” as we waited for Jesus to come. Adding a few items each week – prayers, presents, crackers – the table was ready for Christmas Eve. And plenty of Red bags full of food and goodies were donated to give away
Christmas Day featured our annual free lunch for all who wished to come! Co-ordinated by Tye Shepherd and run by volunteers, the lunch is a great way to connect and celebrate community.
Finally we finished with the great Hymnfest! People were invited to nominate their favourite hymns for the set list. During the service they were then invited up to tell the audience why that hymn was important to them. A fun and enlightening service of music and praise – can’t wait until next years!
And that’s a wrap!
